Formula E Jakarta Ends; Jokowi Talks of Ancol JIEC

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo expressed concerns over the fate of the newly-built Jakarta International E-Prix Circuit in Ancol as Formula E Jakarta has ended.

In his official statement, he instructed the circuit to be used for various races other than the international electric car race event.

“It's better if there are more events in the circuit. The more productive, the better. If possible, there are events every week,” said the President on the broadcast of the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel, quoted today, June 6, 2022.

He appreciated the success of the Formula E Jakarta event. According to him, electric car racing is in line with Indonesia's mission to build a domestic electric vehicle industry.

“I think this is the event of the future because we know there will be a shift from motorized cars to electric cars,” Jokowi remarked.

Vice president of communications of Formula E Jakarta Iman Sjafei said the JIEC Ancol would be used throughout the year for motorsport events generated by institutions, communities, and individuals.

“There are already several plans which will be announced in the near future,” said Iman as quoted from today's edition of Koran Tempo.
