Former Manchester United striker Teddy Sheringham gives verdict on Mason Mount and Andre Onana

Former Manchester United striker Teddy Sheringham has praised his old club for completing the signings of Mason Mount and Andre Onana this summer.

Following a slow start to the transfer window, United have bolstered both their midfield and goalkeeping departments over the last three weeks with two statement signings. Mount was snapped up from Chelsea in early-July for a fee understood to be in the region of £60million while Onana finalised his switch to Old Trafford from Inter Milan last week for an initial fee of £47.2m.

Manager Erik ten Hag had made signing a new midfielder one of his leading objectives this summer and he had installed Mount as his primary target before last season had even reached its conclusion. The England international brings fresh energy to United's midfield, as well as ball-playing expertise and a creative nous.

He has made three appearances for the club in this summer's pre-season campaign so far, starting in the No.8 position on each occasion. And that is the position that Sheringham, like Mount himself, considers as his best role.

"I hope that he can join in and create chances for United's attacking players, while chipping in with a few goals
