Jonny Evans has given perfect advice to teammates as Manchester United contract decision nears

Jonny Evans could be coming to the end of his second Manchester United spell very shortly.

The central defender made a surprise return to Old Trafford this summer after he was released by Leicester City following their relegation to the Championship. Having initially linked up with United to train and maintain his fitness, Erik ten Hag deemed it worthy to offer the Northern Irishman a short-term deal with the Reds.

The 35-year-old came through the youth team ranks at United and has just shy of 200 appearances for the club in competitive games, before leaving in 2015 for West Bromwich Albion. It remains to be seen if he will add to his Old Trafford tally ahead of the new Premier League campaign getting underway.

It remains to be seen if Evans' time at United goes on for much longer. It is understood that the veteran is contracted to the club for at least another fortnight, but that his deal expires before the end of August.

The Old Trafford club are yet to make a decision on the defender's future, after he was brought in following an injury to teenage defender Rhys Bennett. He has featured in pre-season.

United have several players in the heart of defence, with Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane backed up by Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire. Left-back Luke Shaw can also operate in the position, if required.

It could prove to be a swansong for Evans' United career with a second spell out of the blue. He may yet be offered the prospect of game time elsewhere which sees his return
