Former Manchester United loanee Sofyan Amrabat trying to force through transfer

Sofyan Amrabat is not training with Fiorentina amid his efforts to secure a move away from the club this summer.

The midfielder spent last season on loan at Manchester United but that arrangement expired on June 30 and he has not returned to Fiorentina's training ground, Viola Park.

Amrabat was absent as Fiorentina defeated their youth team 5-2 in a warm-up match on Sunday.

The 27-year-old Morocco international is eager to extend his stay at United but would be open to joining another Premier League club.

United had the option to sign Amrabat for €20million (£16.8m) rising to €25m (£21.8m) as part of his season-long loan arrangement but it is unclear if they will reopen discussions about a permanent move.

Erik ten Hag has been due to discuss the possibility of buying Amrabat with new sporting director Dan Ashworth, technical director Jason Wilcox and chief executive Omar Berrada.

Amrabat only started 17 games for United and went five months without a Premier League start until he was recalled for the home defeat to Arsenal on the penultimate weekend of the Premier League season.

Amrabat performed creditably and he went on to start against Newcastle, Brighton and Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley, where he was outstanding.

Ten Hag worked with Amrabat at FC Utrecht in 2017 and pushed for United to close a deal last summer, despite reservations from members of the hierarchy.
