Forgotten Man United talent can solve long-term Leicester City problem with free transfer

This summer marks four years since Riyad Mahrez said his farewells at Leicester City and joined Manchester City for £60million.

The Algerian winger featured 179 times for the Foxes after signing for the club in their Championship winning season in 2014 from French second division side Le Havre, going on to play important roles in 2015's great escape and 2016's historic Premier League title win.

Mahrez's departure to Pep Guadiola's side left a gaping hole in City's side after the 31-year-old made the right winger role his own with his dazzling footwork and link-up play with Jamie Vardy. Algerian counter-part Rachid Ghezzal and Cengiz Under both came and failed to replace Mahrez, with Ademola Lookman enjoying the most successful period on the right since 2018 last season with seven goals and five assists.

Many players have been tipped to join the King Power Stadium outfit as a right-sided winger this summer, with reports previously suggesting City were in "pole position" to sign Club Brugge attacker Charles De Ketelaere and PSV's Noni Madueke attracting interest for his performances in the Netherlands.

Brendan Rodgers hinted last season that he wanted five or six players as part of a "healthy shake-up", but players must be sold if they are to do all of the business they had hoped for, meaning high-valued players are difficult to negotiate.

With funds needing to be raised to land players, City could turn to former Manchester United winger Adnan Januzaj for added quality in their attacking areas. The Belgian is now a free agent after his contract at Spanish side Real Sociedad expired, putting an end to his five year spell with Los Txuri-Urdin .
