Floyd Mayweather: Highlights of the fight he 'lost' are pretty damning

Type in on Google and you will see that boxing legend Floyd Mayweather had an undefeated career inside the ropes, with the American racking up 50 wins and zero defeats.

However, it can be argued that he should have had a defeat during his 28th fight because he had a very controversial win against Jose Luis Castillo back in 2002.

This was because, when looking back at the footage, it was clear that Castillo had the upper hand on his opponent throughout the fight.

Even though Mayweather started the fight the stronger, Castillo got in his groove and took the initiative with strong punches that backed the American into the corner.

As the latter rounds progressed, it was clear that Mayweather was getting frustrated because the Mexican was delivering uppercut punches that restricted his ability to land effective punches in response.

However, at the end of round nine, Mayweather hung in there as he delivered a strong left-hand jab to the face of Castillo.

However, it seemed to be too little too late, as due to the dominance of Castillo, the TV judge Harold Lederman judged the fight 115-111 in the Mexican’s favour.

There was a moment of controversy, though, because the officials went against the verdict of the TV judge, as they ruled that Mayweather won the fight and was subsequently declared as the new lightweight champion of the world.

However, seeing the dominance of Castillo’s performance, the crowd vented their despair as they booed the decision to award Mayweather the victory.

The despair about the decision was also agreed by legendary boxing commentator Jim Lampley, as he said: “Not the fight we saw. Definitely not the fight that this announce team was watching at ringside.

“Not the first time it’s happened.”
