First look at Coronation Street's first gay wedding with 'secret' between Paul and Billy

The wedding bells are ringing in Coronation Street next week and there will be an extra reason to celebrate as just like when his sister tied the knot earlier this year, Paul Foreman's marriage to Billy Mayhew will actually go ahead.

It was actually revealed back in 2021 that the ITV soap was lining up the first gay wedding in the soap's 60-year history. But at that time, viewers were wondering whether it would be Paul or Todd Grimshaw that Billy would be marrying after the archdeacon was oblivious to the fact he was being lured away from Paul by a devious Todd.

But two years later and fans now know that it was Paul that Billy eventually agreed to marry, after rebuilding their relationship following Todd's interference, but under heartbreaking circumstances.

Despite the joy of their nuptials, tragedy lies ahead for the pair after Paul was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease. The former builder discovered the heartbreaking news that he had the fatal, rapidly progressing disease that affects the brain and spinal cord in scenes aired in April.

Paul, who only discovered anything was wrong after he was accidentally knocked over by Carla Connor in her Underworld van when she had been unknowingly drugged with LSD by Stephen Reid, kept the news from his loved ones.

He initially only confided in his friend and former flatmate Dee-Dee Bailey before she had to help him after he was caught by the police stealing cars, which he was doing to try and fix his money woes knowing he wasn't able to return to his job with Ed Bailey.
