First Division wrap: Treaty United and Cork City play out stalemate

Treaty United and Cork City played out a stalemate at Markets Field in a hard-fought top-of-the-table SSE Airtricity Men's First Division clash on Friday night.

Over 3,000 fans turned out to watch a physical contest which took place in difficult weather conditions.

Both teams came into this one unbeaten, with Cork three points ahead of their opponents having played a game more.

Treaty's Lee Devitt saw red in stoppage time for a late challenge, but at the final whistle, it was as you were for the two sides at the summit.

Athlone Town produced a remarkable comeback to deny Longford Town victory in a thrilling 3-3 draw.

The visitors raced into a three-goal lead in the first period.

Adan Wixted broke the deadlock in the fifth minute, Oisin Hand doubled the advantage ten minutes before the break and then right on the stroke of half-time Karl Chambers seemingly put the game to bed.

However Athlone refused to lie down. Dean Ebbe pulled one back on the hour mark when he turned home a low cross. Ten minutes later, Ebbe struck again to set up a barnstorming finish - with substitute Jamal Ibrahim rifling home the equaliser in the 74th minute.

That's how it stayed, though it could have been worse for Longford, with Ebbe hitting the post in the closing stages.

It was another goal fest at the Carlisle Grounds where Bray Wanderers came out the wrong side of a seven-goal thriller with Wexford.

Cristian Magerusan fired the Seagulls ahead in the ninth minute, but Mikie Rowe levelled things up two minutes later and struck again on 19 minutes to put Wexford in front.

Shane Griffin responded for Bray four minutes after that - and the goals kept coming.
