Fauldhouse United striker reflects on 'freak' record-breaking six goal blitz
Fauldhouse United striker Cavan Loney delivered six of the best for the Hoose in their recent victory over Stoneyburn.
If bagging six goals in his side’s 6-1 win wasn’t remarkable enough, the striker netted them all inside a barely believable 18 minute spell in the second-half of the East of Scotland Division Three clash.
Not surprisingly, the ruthless spell marks a club record while United are awaiting confirmation from the Scottish Football Association as to whether or not a double hat-trick has ever been completed quicker in the senior game.
Given the sides had played out a goalless first-half, there was little sign of the goalfest to follow after the interval and chatting to the Courier about his hot streak, even Loney admitted he can’t quite believe it happened.
He commented: “It’s obviously a freak occurrence but I’m absolutely delighted. You don’t go into any game thinking you’ll be scoring six goals but to then do it in 18 minutes is something I’d imagine I’ll never do again.
“It was just one of those spells where everything just seemed to click. It was surreal. Most of the time strikers don’t even get six shots on goal during a game so to score six in 18 minutes was unreal.
“It was 0-0 at half-time and I thought we’d played pretty well. We had created a few chances, including one from me, and probably should have been in front. The message at half-time was to keep playing that way.”
The front man, who sits on seven goals for the season as the Hoose look to mount a promotion charge, confessed that two of the sextet in particular stand out, saying: “The second one, I’m outside the box and I’ve found the top corner and the fourth one I ran through on goal and spotted the keeper off his line.
