"Fans will love that" - Journalist drops exciting Wolves claim on "unbelievable" £27m-rated star

Wolverhampton Wanderers ‘fans will love’ to see Sporting star Matheus Nunes head to Molineux in the summer transfer window, according to journalist Josh Holland.

Bruno Lage, who was appointed as Wolves’ head coach last June, has started to identify targets ahead of potentially splashing the cash on fresh faces.

According to The Athletic, Lage has set his sights on bolstering his midfield options with two additions and Nunes is on the shortlist of potential acquisitions.

The report suggests Lage is preparing for the possibility of Joao Moutinho and Ruben Neves leaving Molineux in the summer and, as a result, the Portuguese has informed chairman Jeff Shi and the recruitment team of the profile of players he wants to bring to the club.

Nunes has been a regular member of Sporting’s midfield this season, with him already making 46 appearances and racking up eight goal contributions along the way.

With the 23-year-old being central to Ruben Amorim’s plans, having also won four trophies over the course of the last year, it is likely that it would take a big fee to persuade Sporting to sell one of their prised assets.

The £27million-rated star has been described as ‘unbelievable’ by former team-mate Goncalo Santos, so it is clear that Wolves would have made a coup signing if he heads to Molineux.

Holland believes Wolves would show they mean business if they succeed in their pursuit of Nunes.

However, the journalist warns Lage must target stars who are not yearning for Champions League football immediately, so it may be difficult to tempt Nunes to the West Midlands.
