Factors deciding Bolton Wanderers' strike partnership pinpointed as Sunderland duo reference made

Ian Evatt believes he now has a 'mixed bag' of strikers in his squad that he can turn to depending on what circumstances throw at Bolton Wanderers and which players he feels will best suit any given encounter.

Dion Charles and Jon Dadi Bodvarsson both arrived at Wanderers in the January transfer window to bolster the options at the top end of the pitch.

It added to existing talent in that department including Dapo Afolayan, Amadou Bakayoko and Elias Kachunga, while Eoin Doyle departed the club.

With what he now has at his disposal, Evatt feels he has more options at the top of the pitch and can go with a more physical approach with the likes of Bodvarsson and Bakayoko.

Both are mobile options, however, and it marries well with the more all round approaches of Charles and Kachunga, as well as the technique of Afolayan.

And Evatt has certainly raised the prospects of starting two physical options in games where it is demanded, or perhaps even going with a more traditional strike partnership as the Bolton boss referenced Sunderland's famous pair of Kevin Phillips and Niall Quinn.

Evatt told the Manchester Evening News: "I think it’s horses for courses. What we’ve got now is a mixed bag of strikers. We’ve got two more physical ones – Jon and Baka – who still are technically capable but will embrace physicality more.

"They both still can run - you shouldn’t underestimate how quick they are. Dion is a bit of an all-rounder – he punches above his weight and is still able to technically link things. Dapo is all technique really and Kacha is a mixed bag as well, can do both sides.
