FA Cup could cause Manchester United headache with potential Premier League fixture change

Manchester United are preparing to face Liverpool this weekend in the FA Cup.

United take on their bitter rivals in the quarter-final of the competition at Old Trafford this Sunday. The FA Cup remains United's most realistic chance of winning silverware this season, with the club fighting to achieve a top-four finish in the Premier League.

Erik ten Hag's side are currently sixth in the top-flight and moved to eight points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa at the weekend thanks to a 2-0 win over Everton. United now have 10 Premier League fixtures remaining to try and secure Champions League football for next season.

For now, all of the attention will be focused on trying to beat Liverpool on Sunday in the FA Cup. Should that happen, then it would affect United's Premier League run-in.

Victory for United would secure the club's spot in the semi-final. If that happens the Reds would travel to Wembley Stadium for the prestigious fixture on Saturday, April 20.

This day is also on the same weekend as Premier League fixtures are taking place. United are due to face Newcastle United at Old Trafford that weekend, in a game that could still be moved for television coverage.

However, should United beat Liverpool this Sunday, then that game would need to be rearranged no matter what. An FA Cup semi-final would take its place, meaning a new date would need to be found for the fixture against Newcastle.
