Ex-Manchester United star Jesse Lingard BANNED from driving

Former Manchester United and England star Jesse Lingard has been fined and banned from driving after failing to provide correct details to police for a speeding offence. Lingard was the Range Rover Sport's registered keeper, but was not behind the wheel, a court heard.

Manchester Magistrates Court heard this morning (July 28) that the car registered to the 30-year-old footballer was flashed by a speed camera on the A56 in Stretford last August. A notice of intended prosecution (NIP) was sent to his address in Altrincham, but Lingard was living at a rented property in Nottingham at the time while playing for Nottingham Forest.

Frank Rogers, representing Lingard, told the court that his client was not driving the car and 'at no stage did he actually deal with the NIP'. He explained that an email address 'linked' to Lingard's Instagram account, which was used for his merchandise business and 'ran by staff', was used to log on to the police penalty system at one stage.

"It's not the email address that he uses for his private emails," Mr Rogers added. "But he accepts... this was not good enough.

"He had been with Manchester United since the age of nine until August last year, so this was fairly new to him - his absence and having to organise his affairs differently." Lingard had previously pleaded not guilty to the offence at Stockport Magistrates Court in April, but changed his plea to guilty today, when a trial had been scheduled.
