Ex-Detective who was star of TV's Hunted gives verdict on Jay Slater investigation as he pinpoints key error

A high-profile former police detective says Spanish police need to keep "all options open" during the hunt for missing Jay Slater. Peter Bleksley was a founder member of Scotland Yard's undercover unit in the 1980s.

Since leaving the Met and policing, he has become a renowned crime expert and commentator. He has also starred as the chief in popular Channel 4 TV series Hunted.

He has now given his verdict on the ongoing search efforts for Jay, and says that whilst he believes it is most likely to be a missing persons case, the Civil Guard should still dedicate resources to pursuing other lines of enquiry.

"They believe he's wandered into very tricky terrain with ravines, gullies, caves and cacti as sharp as razors" he told the Express. "They are sticking to that theory. We've seen nothing to indicate they are considering other options at this stage... They have to keep all options open."

Jay, from Oswaldtwistle, in east Lancashire, disappeared while trying to walk back to his accommodation after missing a bus from the village of Masca to Los Cristianos.

The apprentice bricklayer had attended the NRG music festival on the island with two friends. He is believed to have then travelled to Masca before his disappearance and was last heard from on Monday last week.

The walk from Jay's last known location, Rural de Teno Park in the north of the island, to his accommodation would have taken about 11 hours on foot.
