A month in the heat, a court announcement and a family grieving - what next in Jay Slater case?

One month ago, Jay Slater was on holiday with his friends in Tenerife. Just like so many other young Brits, the 19-year-old from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, had travelled to the Canary Island for a good time.

In the early hours of June 17, the apprentice bricklayer was partying at an NRG Festival rave at the Papagayo Beach Club, in Playa de last Americas. He left without his pals - heading north to an Airbnb in the remote village of Masca, in the Rural Park de Teno.

From there, Jay left on foot. He called friend Lucy Law at 8.30am to say he was lost and had just one per cent phone battery. It was the beginning of a four-week saga which turned into tragedy on Monday (July 15), as his body was found in a 'rough and inaccessible area' near Masca.

Significant questions hang over Jay's story - not least, how it took the emergency services 29 days to find him. The Manchester Evening News has made repeated attempts to question the Civil Guard over the last two days - yet those questions remain largely unanswered.

The exact location where Jay was found is yet to be confirmed by authorities. Whether emergency services had previously searched the specific location - and if not, why not - is still unknown.

The question of whether Jay was found with a Rolex watch has also been unanswered. TV detective Mark Williams-Thomas, who began investigating the case, claimed Jay posted a Snapchat video boasting about stealing the watch before he disappeared.
