Police issue major 'Section 60' stop and search order after man, 55, hurt in serious incident

Increased police stop and search powers were in force covering a defined area of Salford today after a man was injured and taken to hospital.

The 55 year-old injuries were described by Greater Manchester Police as 'superficial' and 'thankfully not believed to be life threatening or life changing'.

A force spokesperson said a cordon was in place in the Little Hulton area and enquiries were ongoing 'to understand the circumstances', with no further details confirmed.

A Section 60 order, meanwhile, has been sanctioned, which will remain in force until 11am on Saturday. Police said patrols have also been stepped up. The order gives officers powers to search anybody within a specified area.

The defined area was published in a map revealed by GMP.

In a statement on Friday, GMP said: "We are currently responding to an incident on Manchester Road East in Little Hulton. A 55-year-old man has been taken to hospital with superficial injuries that are thankfully not believed to be life threatening or life changing.

"A scene is in place and enquires are ongoing to understand the circumstances. Additional officers have been deployed to the area. If you have any concerns or information, please speak to them.
