Ewen Ferguson claims BMW International victory as Scot can't hold back the tears following DP Tour first

Ewen Ferguson is the first Scottish golfer to win on the DP World Tour this year thanks to victory in the BMW International.

The Glasgow native shot 67, 64, 71 and 78 to finish 18 under and is just the third Scot every to win the tournament. He beat Aussie David Micheluzzi by two strikes to finish top of the pile at Golfclub Munchen Eichenried, delivering at least one Scottish success in the Bavarian city this summer after Scotland were battered 5-1 by hosts Germany in their Euro 2024 opener just over three weeks ago.

Fellow Scot Connor Syme finished tied for fourth on 14 under. But it was Ferguson who scooped the prize and couldn't hold back the tears after securing victory. And he had to overcome a bout of vertigo, which forced him to retire from last month's European Open in Hamburg, heading into the BMW this weekend.

He said: “It’s been quite tough, struggling with vertigo,” he said. “It makes you feel so funny. You get days where you feel totally normal and think you can play again, like I tried to do in Hamburg and then it came on again and I was like, ‘oh no’.

“When you’re on the sidelines watching the golf, you realise how lucky you are to play it. I couldn’t wait to get back out.

“My first event back at KLM, I was loving it to be honest. Last week in Italy was nice. The weather’s been so good here, I love Munich, and I just feel like I’m enjoying it a lot more.”
