Man United can use Matthijs de Ligt transfer delay to complete £76m double raid

Leny Yoro was Manchester United's priority centre-back signing this summer - but the club are refusing to rule out making more moves to improve the backline.

Yoro, 18, effectively replaces Raphael Varane, who officially left the club at the start of the month upon the expiration of his contract. But since then, Willy Kambwala has been sold to Villarreal, while United are "trying hard" to move on Victor Lindelof during this transfer window.

As such, they are open to signing as many as three players to replenish the position. But there is still a balance to strike across the board.

Balancing their budget and other positional priorities seems to be why no bid has been submitted to Bayern Munich ten days after agreeing personal terms with Matthijs de Ligt. But during that time, United have also reportedly enquired about Jonathan Tah, who just so happens to be the player Bayern are said to want to sign on order to replace De Ligt.

The Bavarian club will purportedly not move for the German international before sanctioning the sale of their defender, which could present United with the opportunity to sign both. They may prefer to sign Jarrad Branthwaite after having two bids rejected by Everton already this summer, but doing business with Bayer Leverkusen should be more straightforward as Tah is in the final 12 months of his contract.
