Everything heard in the first week of the trial of teacher accused of having sex with two pupils

This is everything heard by the jury in the first week of the trial of a teacher accused of having sex with two of her pupils. Rebecca Joynes, 30, denies six counts of having sexual activity with a child.

The allegations concern two teenage boys who she met through her job as a teacher at a Greater Manchester school. The trial continues at Manchester Crown Court on Monday.

Ms Joynes, of Pensby Road, Wirral, denies four counts of sexual activity with a child, and two counts of sexual activity with a child by a person in a position of trust.

Seven men and five women were selected as the jury in the case. After Judge Kate Cornell gave her introductory legal directions to the jury, barrister Joe Allman opened the prosecution’s case.

He alleged that Ms Joynes had groomed one of her pupils with a Trafford Centre shopping trip before having sex with him, before falling pregnant by another teenage pupil.

The court heard that she took a 15-year-old boy, Boy A, to the Trafford Centre and bought him a £345 Gucci belt from Selfridges, before she brought him back to her apartment in Salford where they allegedly had sex.

She was later suspended from her post and was later discovered to have fallen pregnant with a second boy, Boy B, who she first met aged 15 when they allegedly kissed one another.
