Everyone who has been jailed so far for their part in riots across UK

Dozens of people have been put behind bars this week after taking part in violent disorder across the country.

Courts up and down the UK have seen men and women sentenced after pleading guilty to charges including criminal damage, violent disorder, and assaulting an emergency worker.

Others pushed wheelie bins at police, set fire to police vehicles, and shouted vile racist and homophobic abuse. They will all now be facing time in prison after judges ordered they be put behind bars.

Teenager James Nelson is thought to have become the first person in the country jailed over the recent riots.

The 18-year-old smashed police cars during disorder in Bolton and pleaded guilty to causing criminal damage during protests in the Greater Manchester town last Sunday, police said.

Nelson, of Victoria Road, Horwich, was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

The court heard that two police cars - a Ford Focus and a Peugeot - were smashed up while they were parked in the Morrisons car park on Black Horse Street. One had "significant damage to the windscreen", while the other had its back and near side window smashed in.
