Everton: Fabrizio Romano drops striker update at Goodison Park

Everton are ‘working on many strikers’ ahead of tonight’s 11 pm transfer deadline, according to reliable reporter Fabrizio Romano.

It could be a busy deadline day for the Toffees as they look to provide additional strength to Frank Lampard’s first-team squad following an underwhelming start to the season.

After narrowly avoiding relegation last term, Everton have backed Lampard in the transfer market, bringing in the likes of Amadou Onana, Dwight McNeil and Neal Maupay for sizeable fees.

However, the Merseyside outfit have reportedly informed back-up forward Salomon Rondon that he is surplus to requirements and free to find a new club.

The 32-year-old is one of only two fit senior forwards on Everton’s books at this moment in time alongside new recruit Maupay as Dominic Calvert-Lewin continues his comeback from injury.

Calvert-Lewin was also limited to just 15 Premier League starts in 2021/22 due to a series of fitness setbacks, and as a result, it’s believed that Lampard is eager to bring another striker into the club.

Everton have been linked with several players in recent weeks, but with the cut-off point edging ever closer, it remains to be seen who they opt for.

One player reportedly on Everton’s radar is Ben Brereton Diaz of Blackburn Rovers, who only has one year remaining on his current contract at Ewood Park.

And Romano has informed GiveMeSport that the Chile international is indeed someone who Lampard is ‘considering for that position’ alongside an extensive list of other options.

He said: “They’re working on many strikers, Ben Brereton Diaz, and there are many, many players really that they are considering for that position.”

A report from The Athletic has revealed that Everton are ‘exploring’ a loan-to-buy
