Everton: Anthony Gordon in 'unbelievable' situation at Goodison Park

Everton winger Anthony Gordon is earning an ‘unbelievable’ amount of money compared to most 21-year-olds but should be on a higher salary as a Premier League star, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Frank Lampard oversaw a busy summer of business at Goodison Park but his biggest achievement in the market was keeping Gordon at the club amid serious interest.

Chelsea launched an aggressive pursuit of Gordon’s signature, offering up to £60 million for his services.

The player himself was eager to complete a switch to Stamford Bridge and join Thomas Tuchel’s set-up, prior to the German’s recent sacking.

However, Everton strongly maintained throughout the window that Gordon was not for sale at any price, after Tottenham had previously considered moving for him alongside Richarlison.

With Graham Potter now in charge in west London, it remains to be seen whether or not Chelsea will return for the England under-21 international’s signature.

Gordon’s current contract is not set to expire until 2025 but with the player only earning £10,000 per-week, the Toffees have moved to secure his future by offering him new terms worth six times his current pay packet.

Lampard confirmed last week that the club were ‘speaking’ with the player’s representatives over a new contract to see if they could reach a ‘solution’.

Jones believes that the new deal would be a fair reflection of his stature within the squad at Goodison Park.

The transfer insider adds that earning £10,000 per week is a huge amount compared to most people his age but that his importance warrants a big increase.
