Everton: 74-game star 'rare bright point' at Goodison Park

Everton star Amadou Onana’s early season form has been a ‘bright point’ during an underwhelming start to the season at Goodison Park, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The defensive midfielder was among the Toffees’ summer additions as close to £80million was spent on bolstering Frank Lampard’s squad during the transfer window.

Everton splashed out £34million to sign Onana from French side Lille and he has already established himself as a key cog in midfield.

The 21-year-old has made six appearances following his switch to Merseyside and played the full 90 minutes during his new side’s last two Premier League clashes with Leeds United and Liverpool.

Toffees boss Lampard was overjoyed when Onana completed his move last month and wasted no time in highlighting that he has ‘massive potential to get better’.

The Belgian penned a five-year contract at Goodison Park after snubbing a transfer to one of Everton’s Premier League rivals.

It is understood that West Ham United agreed a fee with Lille ahead of the Toffees, but Onana was more open to joining Lampard’s charges thanks to better personal terms being on offer.

Jones is impressed with how quickly Onana has adjusted to the rigours of the Premier League and believes he has been one of Everton’s better performers during the early stages of the season.

However, the journalist is not surprised that Lampard has already managed to get the best out of the one-cap Belgium international.
