Rangers: People now 'raising concern over Van Bronckhorst' at Ibrox

Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst will inevitably have questions asked about his future following a torrid week, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Glasgow giants suffered consecutive 4-0 defeats to fierce rivals Celtic and Eredivisie champions Ajax, piling the pressure on Van Bronckhorst to turn their fortunes around.

It was an initially impressive start to the season for Rangers, who lost just one of their opening nine games in all competitions, winning on seven occasions.

However, the Gers were thrashed in the opening Old Firm derby of the campaign last Saturday when a mistake from goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin contributed to the embarrassing scoreline.

Rangers then travelled to the Johan Cruyff ArenA on Wednesday for their first Champions League clash in 12 years, but it was a night to remember for all the wrong reasons.

Ajax raced into a 3-0 lead after just 33 minutes and looked a class above the visitors throughout the one-sided encounter.

The hugely disappointing results have unsurprisingly led to questions being asked about Van Bronckhorst in the aftermath, although his previous achievements should mean his job is safe for now.

Jones believes that the Rangers hierarchy need to consider several factors before making a decision of Van Bronckhorst’s future, although admits speculation is unavoidable.

He told GiveMeSport: “It’s inevitable that people are raising concern over Van Bronckhorst at a time like this, but if you make that decision to get rid of him, it costs you money.

“But further than that, you have to have a replacement lined up, and that person has to be a guarantee that things do get better immediately because otherwise you might as well wait for the last guy to turn things around.”
