Everton lost best chance to sign 'class' £15m star at Goodison Park

Everton target Mohammed Kudus could find himself on the radar of ‘bigger clubs’ next summer, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 22-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Goodison Park in the previous transfer window, but Ajax were unwilling to sanction his sale as several of their star players had already departed the club.

Miguel Delaney of The Independent revealed that Everton made a last-minute £15 million offer for Kudus, which was swiftly rejected by his current employers.

It’s claimed that Ajax believed the Ghana international could develop into one of the best attacking midfielders in world football, and as a result, were determined to retain his services.

Kudus still has three years remaining on his existing contract at the Johan Cruijff ArenA, and his stock is likely to grow this season as he plays a more prominent role under new managerAlfred Schreuder.

And he was deemed untouchable over the summer after the likes of Antony, Sebastien Haller and Ryan Gravenberch were sold on to top clubs across the continent.

Schreuder has since made Kudus central to his plans at Ajax, and Everton could face stiff competition for his signature if they revive their interest in him over the coming months.

Everton did manage to improve their midfield options by bringing in Amadou Onana, James Garner and Idrissa Gueye, but their perhaps remains a creative void in the blue half of Merseyside.

Yet Jones believes that the Toffees are unlikely to be the only interested party in Kudus when the transfer market reopens for business.
