Evan Ferguson, £25m midfielder and two more - dream summer transfer window for Manchester United

Manchester United have only just wrapped-up their transfer business this summer, but there are already plans in place to strengthen further before the 2024/2025 season.

Andre Onana, Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund were three marquee additions this summer, costing £180million combined, while Erik ten Hag and his recruitment team made four signings on deadline day in Altay Bayindir, Jonny Evans, Sergio Reguilon and Fiorentina star Sofyan Amrabat.

United paid next to nothing for that quartet, though, as they explored the loan market for Reguilon and Amrabat. Due to constraints within the budget plus Harry Maguire and Donny van de Beek staying put, the club were made to shelve any attempts to snap-up other players.

However, just four games into the Premier League season, Manchester Evening News understands work has now started for their recruitment drive next summer. Here's how a dream scenario could play out with United - initially - hoping to pursue targets at full-back, centre-back, central midfield and in attacking quarters.

Jeremie Frimpong (right-back)

United were expected to target a right-back when Ten Hag was first appointed. At that stage, Aaron Wan-Bissaka was deemed surplus to requirements, but the £50million former Crystal Palace defender has gone full circle to put his name on the team sheet on a regular basis. Ten Hag is thought to openly 'admire' Frimpong and the 22-year-old has started this season on fire at Bayer Leverkusen; with one goal and three assists in four games.
