Erik ten Hag explains why Facundo Pellistri starts for Manchester United vs Crystal Palace

Erik ten Hag has started Facundo Pellistri in Manchester United's game against Crystal Palace because he's quick, speedy and a capable dribbler.

Brazilian winger Antony is usually the first-choice option on the right flank, but he's been on a leave of absence and unavailable in the last few weeks, which means there have been opportunities on that side of the pitch.

Pellistri started on the right against Palace in the Carabao Cup earlier this week and he's retained that role for the clash between the two sides in the Premier League, alongside Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund in attack.

Bruno Fernandes has also returned to the side after his rest in midweek and he's set to start with Casemiro and Mason Mount, while Soyan Amrabat has been deployed at left-back again due to Sergio Reguilon picking up a minor injury.

Ten Hag spoke to PLP ahead of kick-off on Saturday afternoon and said: "This is what we have to do [build momentum] and we know it's not going to be easy. We know they are looking for revenge and it will not be similar.

"It's always difficult when you play them twice in a week but we know we have to be better than we were on Tuesday. That is we brought him [versatile Amrabat]. We know he's a very dynamic player and comfortable on the ball.

"He is always looking for the ball and he's always looking for options to play. I think in defence too this is also true."

Ten Hag was asked what he wanted from Pellistri and added: "A little bit similar from his appearance in the last game. He is quick, speedy and he's also a good dribbler. He is reliable and I hope he can transfer his threat into assists and goals."
