Erik ten Hag transfer decision is quietly paying off for Manchester United

Headlines were reserved exclusively for teenagers on Monday morning after Manchester United's 3-0 win at Everton.

Pictures of Alejandro Garnacho, contorted upside down and ready to unleash an unbelievable overhead kick past Jordan Pickford, dominated the back pages. The 19-year-old scored the greatest goal of his career and arguably the best anyone in United red has managed at Goodison Park, making him the instant talking point.

Kobbie Mainoo did his best to usurp the Argentinian with a performance less about moments and more about consistent quality. At just 18-years-old, he belied his years in a first-ever Premier League start and earned widespread praise from just about every corner of the footballing world since.

United spent £47.2million to bring Onana across from Inter Milan and while no one doubted the improvement in possession, concerns were raised as to whether he was actually a better goalkeeper than De Gea. And the 27-year-old's start to life in Manchester only raised more questions.

Rash decisions and unforced errors were all too common in the opening
