Bruno Fernandes has urged his Manchester United teammates to step up and take their chance against Galatasaray, just like Kobbie Mainoo did at the weekend.

United travel to Istanbul for a must-win Champions League tie in midweek, knowing that three points are essential if they are to have any hopes of qualifying from the group.

Erik ten Hag will be eager for his side to carry on where they left off at Goodison Park but he will be sweating over the fitness of a number of players ahead of the match.

Rasmus Hojlund and Antony both missed the 3-0 win over Everton and Fernandes has challenged the rest of his teammates to step up and replace those who are absent.

“The other ones have to step (up). They have to step like Kobbie did," he told reporters after the win against Everton. "Everyone else that gets the chance, they have to make a big step and make a statement to be in the squad.

“In the group the feeling is that we have to win both games we have ahead to hope to go through. We know that's going to be tough, it's going to be difficult but we have to think that we can do it because we have done it in the past in difficult situations.

“We get through some difficult periods, so we just have to do it again.”
