Erik ten Hag's Premier League title message as Man City transfer window state of play addressed

Here are your Manchester City headlines for Monday, July 31.

Ten Hag makes Man City title admission

Erik ten Hag has played down talk of a title challenge from Manchester United this campaign, insisting it is only Manchester City who can think of winning the league in pre-season.

The Blues have won five of the last six Premier League crowns and they've often left their rivals for dust, with United still 14 points behind last season despite a much-improved campaign. Ten Hag's side ended 2022/23 with a third-place finish, a first trophy in six years and a defeat in the FA Cup final, but they still had to watch City sweep all before them to win the treble.

The next challenge for United is to embark on a sustained title challenge, especially after having spent around £180million this summer on Andre Onana, Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund, whose arrival is set to be confirmed this week.

But Ten Hag is cooling the idea of such talk, believing the challenge for every top side except City is to make sure of a top-four finish and a spot in the Champions League before throwing down the gauntlet to Pep Guardiola's team.

Here is what he has had to say.

The Puma home shirt features the traditional sky blue colour but has slightly darker blue detailed stripes across the front which take inspiration from the Etihad Stadium's walkways. City moved to their new home from Maine Road in 2003 and the shirt honours that anniversary.
