Erik ten Hag needs more from three Manchester United players after Rasmus Hojlund deal

Manchester United's hopes for a better goal return next season can't rest solely on Rasmus Hojlund's shoulders.

MEN Sport understands United are confident of agreeing a deal for the Atalanta striker before they start their Premier League campaign against Wolves. United made the 20-year-old their top priority up front after Tottenham Hotspur discouraged an approach for Harry Kane.

Erik ten Hag has held video calls with Hojlund and has made provisions to help the youngster adapt to life at Old Trafford. Marcus Rashford has been earmarked as an alternative down the middle to ease the forward into the Premier League.

United are preparing to spend £60million on Hojlund, which undoubtedly adds pressure. Anyone who joins Manchester United will feel the weight of expectation but given their pressing need for goals, Hojlund will be scrutinised intensely.

Rashford did his part last year to carry the burden in attack, scoring 30 goals in all competitions. He cannot be the only player helping Hojlund next year if United want to progress, though.

Ten Hag hasn't seen enough from Jadon Sancho or Antony in terms of goal-scoring since their arrivals at the club. Sancho has underperformed in two seasons at United whilst Antony remains raw in the final third.

With United unable to fund a move to sign a proven goal-scorer, they will both have to step up and be counted. United scored only 58 goals in 38 Premier League matches last year.
