Erik ten Hag makes promise on Manchester United's transfer window

Erik ten Hag is convinced Manchester United will have a better squad by the end of the transfer window as the club continues to negotiate with Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot's agent and mother, Veronique.

United agreed a fee of £15million rising to £20m for Rabiot on Saturday as they attempt to reinforce their central midfield.

The club withdrew from a move for Bologna forward Marko Arnautovic after a fan backlash and United are interested in Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

United have also not walked away from a possible deal for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong as they approach the 100-day mark since they first made contact.

Ten Hag would be open to reuniting with former Ajax winger Hakim Ziyech, now at Chelsea, but has been met with resistance from the United board.

United made approaches for forwards Benjamin Sesko and Timo Werner and both signed for RB Leipzig.

When asked if United would have a better squad on September 1, Ten Hag stressed: "We have to. I am convinced we will have.

When asked if he was on the "same page" as the board regarding recruitment, Ten Hag replied: "Yes.

"I'm happy, I think we're cooperating really well. I cannot tell about any individuals, I cannot talk about players under contract at other clubs."

United remain short of two priority targets in midfield and up front, having been priced out of a move for Antony, valued at €80m by Ajax.

De Jong's preference is to stay at Barcelona and Chelsea have also registered their interest in the Dutchman.
