Erik ten Hag's first Manchester United transfer window under spotlight as push for signings continues

Manchester United have endured a disastrous start to their season as Erik ten Hag continues to push for additional deals to speed-up his rebuild at Old Trafford.

Having signed Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez this summer, United impressed on tour before crumbling when the main business started. Humbled by Brighton on the opening day, Ten Hag and his United squad were subsequently humiliated 4-0 against Brentford on Saturday afternoon.

But what will happen next behind the scenes? Frenkie de Jong remains a priority target while United consider Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic as one alternative option.

Adrien Rabiot is also on the agenda and discussions with the Frenchman are ongoing. However, those back-to-back losses against Brighton and Brentford have underlined other frailties beyond the engine room - not least at the back where Malacia and Argentina international Martinez have been brought in.

Incomings have taken centre stage this summer and rightly so given that United finished sixth last season.

However, as Ten Hag continues to set about his much-needed rebuild, outgoings have also played a vital part after several first-team and fringe players departed Old Trafford.

Paul Pogba headed on a free transfer to Juventus for the second time, while Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata and England forward Jesse Lingard were also among those to leave at the end of their respective contracts. Dean Henderson and Alex Telles have moved on loan to Nottingham Forest and Sevilla respectively.
