Erik ten Hag makes next Man United coaching staff decision as Old Trafford shake-up continues

Erik ten Hag has swiftly moved to strengthen his coaching team at Manchester United, bringing in Jelle ten Rouwelaar, a goalkeeping coach who recently worked at Burnley.

Ten Hag, who recently extended his contract at Old Trafford, has chosen to enhance his support staff ahead of the 2024/25 season. United will need to start discussions on a compensation package with Ajax, Ten Hag's former club, after recruiting Ten Rouwelaar.

Impressing alongside Vincent Kompany at Burnley, the goalkeeping coach earned a move to Amsterdam just two months ago. The transfer had been uncertain due to Kompany's move to Bayern Munich, but United aims to finalise a deal with Ajax promptly.

Regarded as a modern coach, Ten Rouwelaar encourages goalkeepers to play from the back. He will now work with United's goalkeepers Andre Onana, Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton in preparation for the new season.

The 43-year-old played a crucial role in helping Kompany secure the Championship title with Burnley in 2023, coaching Arijanet Muric throughout the season. Kompany brought Ten Rouwelaar with him from Anderlecht in 2020, reports the Mirror.

Last summer, United made a significant change by replacing their long-standing goalkeeper David de Gea, who had been the club's No 1 for over a decade. Onana was brought in for a substantial fee and initially struggled, making several high-profile errors that often led to goals.
