Enfield Town 2 Maidstone United 1 match report: Ex-Stones forward Lamar Reynolds settles National League South clash
FA Cup hero Lamar Reynolds scored the winner against his old club as Maidstone squandered a half-time lead at Enfield Town on Tuesday night.
United led at the break through Deon Moore’s tap-in but Sam Youngs levelled and Reynolds, who refused to celebrate out of respect, grabbed the winner soon after.
It’s back-to-back National League South defeats for the Stones, following Saturday’s 3-1 reverse at Dorking, while Enfield have won successive league games for the first time this season and are out of the bottom four.
Reynolds, whose wonder goal gave Maidstone the lead in their FA Cup win at Ipswich two seasons ago, had the best chances of the first half for the hosts.
He bagged a hat-trick in Town’s 5-1 weekend win over Farnborough and might have scored again in the opening minute, just failing to connect with a lovely ball across the six-yard box from Billy Leonard.
A double chance fell his way towards the end of the half when sent through on goal by Youngs.
Stones keeper Nathan Harness was sharply off his line to make the initial save and while Reynolds was quickly back on his feet, he sent the follow-up wide.
Maidstone made Enfield pay by taking the lead moments later.
The goal came on the break in the 41st minute with Jephte Tanga popping up on the right and laying on a tap-in for Moore.
It was a fourth goal of the season for Moore who’d earlier been denied by keeper George Barrett at the end of a long run after Enfield lost possession on halfway.
Town probably didn’t deserve to be behind although they were pleased to hear the whistle as Maidstone ended the half with four successive corners.
The visitors picked up where they left off from the restart as Tanga squared for John Gilbert, who looked a good bet to score,
