Ebbsfleet United manager Josh Wright reacts to 2-1 home defeat to Horsham in National League South

Honest Ebbsfleet boss Josh Wright admitted his side weren’t on their game as they lost their unbeaten home record to Horsham on Tuesday night.

A brace from Brazilian-born forward Lucas Rodrigues put Horsham in charge before a stoppage-time reply from Ebbsfleet substitute Dominic Samuel proved too little, too late.

“We weren't quite at our levels from the off,” conceded Wright. “We didn't get ourselves going. We were off it all over the park.

“It's not to be moaned and dig at them or anything like that, it happens. Sometimes you just have an off-night, sometimes you just come up against the better side.

“As much as we could have ended up getting something out of the game, we weren't ourselves and you have to hold your hands up.

“We'll have to look at it and dissect but it's disappointing because we know how good we've been, especially at home.

“I wouldn't say it's a case of letting ourselves down, but we've just fallen short.

“Is it a mindset thing, a mentality thing? Maybe. Was it a fitness thing? Not so much fitness, but in terms of games and back-to-back games, potentially.

“But I'm on the line of it's more of a mindset thing and we were just slightly off the pace.”

Wright felt Horsham were the best team they’ve faced so far this season at Stonebridge Road.

For all of his own team’s failings on the night, Horsham deserved the three points.

“They're organised, they're solid, they're dynamic and they've just got something about them,” admitted the Fleet boss.

“There's a reason why they're 11 games unbeaten. You have to be doing something right, and credit to them.
