Empty Hibs stands spoke volumes and you wonder where Nick Montgomery's fire is when fighting for his job - Tam McManus
Nick Montgomery needs to start banging heads together at Hibs or it’ll be his noggin for the chop.
Where’s the fire? Where’s the passion of a man fighting for his job? Montgomery looks like a guy comfortable in the knowledge that he’s going to be there next season. Unfortunately, I don’t think that is set in stone any more. If the Hibs sides I played in under Alex McLeish and Bobby Williamson had been humiliated 4-0 at home to Aberdeen then we’d have been read the riot act. In the dressing room and publicly too.
Neil Lennon and John Hughes would have been the exact same. It’s not throwing players under a bus - it’s about demanding standards. After a disgrace of a result the fans want to see a manager come out and blast the players, demand more, point out the deficiencies. But it all seems a bit wishy-washy just now. I don’t know what’s being said behind closed doors but Nick’s never dug anyone out even though there’s mistakes being made week after week.
If you’ve lost two games in a row in the bottom six and the second one of those 4-0 at home then that is exactly the time to get torn into them. You can’t just come out and say you were the better team for 30 minutes and should have been ahead. That just infuriates the fans.
Every week it’s the same tone, the same turn of phrase. You could play a tape recorder and hit repeat. He says the club are on the right trajectory. Well they’re obviously not - they’re ninth!
Has Montgomery got the personality for the job? That’s what fans are asking. And when the supporters turn then the manager loses his job. We saw it when Jack Ross was axed after losing at Livingston and the supporters made their point loud and clear that night. When Lee Johnson was binned after losing, again to
