Hamilton v Inverness: Accies ace Lewis Smith hoping they stop making life difficult for themselves as final looms
Lewis Smith admits Hamilton have made it tough for themselves in the play-offs so far, but insists he won't be caring if they have to grind it out again when they face Inverness in this week's final.
Accies are aiming for an immediate return to the Championship when they tackle Duncan Ferguson's Caley Jags at New Douglas Park tonight before heading to the Highlands for a Saturday evening decider.
And it comes after they led the way in League One this season, only to finish miles behind invincible champions Falkirk.
Winger Smith knows it has been far from plain sailing in the play-off so far, with Accies having to come from behind in both legs of their semi-final with Alloa, which they edged 5-4 on aggregate at the weekend against 10 men.
John Rankin's charges will be underdogs against their Championship opponents but academy graduate Smith says they have shown character to get the job done and will give their all for one last push.
The 25-year-old, who scored one and assisted Ahkeem Rose's winner at the weekend, said: "As a team, we sometimes make it hard for ourselves which is frustrating because we should have made it a bit easier on Saturday. But it shows character to come back from 1-0 down and then find another goal when Alloa got it back to 2-2.
"We showed we had another gear and we could see the game out. That's what it is all about at this stage of the season, grinding games out. A few boys were a bit annoyed at our performance on Saturday and that is fair enough because we weren't at our best. But it is just about getting results and it will be the same against Inverness.
