Emmerdale fans say 'finally' as two new 'residents' to village announced

Emmerdale fans have said 'finally' as the ITV soap announced the village's new 'residents' - but it's not quite as it seems. The social team behind the much-loved show took to Instagram with a snap as they welcomed some unexpected visitors to the Leeds-based set.

Spring appeared to be in the air as they captured clear blue skies above the fictional Yorkshire village, which is based on its very own purpose-built set on the Harewood House Estate in Leeds.

However, when the long-running show debuted back in 1972, filming took place in Arncliffe, a village located in the Yorkshire Dales. This was the case until 1975, when Emmerdale's home was eventually relocated to Esholt in West Yorkshire. But by 1998, the locals wanted their homes back and so a replica village was built so the soap could continue.

The image showed two ducks waddling their way down Main Street near the cafe before also taking a stop outside iconic boozer, The Woolpack.

Sharing the images on Instagram, the Emmerdale team said: "We have new residents in the village! We’ve named them Quack Dingle and Eric Mallard. #emmerdale."

And fans were quick to respond to the post. @pelusita1959 said: "Finally some wildlife in the series!" @pennybulldogandfriends commented: "We’re going to need a whole hour special on this new family!" @tracy.c70 replied: "I bet they will be causing mischief in the village."
