Emma Raducanu "doing her best" to play at Billie Jean King Cup Finals

Anne Keothavong, Britain’s team captain at the Billie Jean King Cup Finals, has revealed Emma Raducanu is “doing her best” to recover from injury for the tournament.

It was announced yesterday that Raducanu would lead Britain at the 12-team event, despite the world number 68 struggling with a wrist injury in recent weeks.

She will be joined by Harriet Dart, Heather Watson and Katie Boulter, as well as a fifth player who is yet to be announced.

With the tournament just one month away, there are doubts over Raducanu’s ability to return to fitness in time.

Speaking to reporters after announcing her team, Keothavong seemed confident that Raducanu would recover from injury in time for the Billie Jean King Cup Finals.

The tournament is set to run from November 8th to 13 at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow.

“I was literally on the phone to her this morning at the airport,” said Keothavong, according to PA.

“We have the benefit of time on our side. The Billie Jean King Cup Finals isn’t for another month.

“She’s doing her best to rest up and recover and she’s got a rehab programme in place. We’ll just have to see how it goes and she’s got to manage it and look after herself, which is the most important thing.

“I know she really wants to be part of this team, she had a great experience when we were in Prague. That’s great when you’ve got your top player who is saying all the right things.”

Raducanu has struggled to regain the form which saw her win the US Open last year, but her absence would still be a big blow to the home nation.

The Billie Jean King Cup, the most prestigious international team tournament in women’s tennis, was founded in 1963.
