Ian Wright agrees with Alan Shearer on Manchester United decision after Kobbie Mainoo performance

Premier League icons Ian Wright and Alan Shearer have praised Manchester United starlet Kobbie Mainoo after his showing against Liverpool.

The 18-year-old was a standout performer in the United midfield as Amad rounded off a memorable comeback at Old Trafford, booking a place at Wembley next month. Erik ten Hag's side will meet Championship side Coventry City in the semi-finals thanks to the Ivorian's late extra-time winner.

Mainoo featured for 80 minutes and departed with Liverpool leading 2-1. However, Antony restored parity three minutes from time before Marcus Rashford and Amad sealed a famous win.

Amad and Antony stole the headlines but Mainoo, again, showcased why he is entering the conversation for a call-up to the England senior squad.

But Shearer believes it's a matter of time before the Stockport-born midfielder lines up in Gareth Southgate's side, he told the Rest is Football podcast: "That’s all he can do. Keep on performing like that, he’s had a brilliant start and I agree with Micah, his performance today was amazing.

"There was probably a bit of disappointment that he wasn't in there (England squad this month), but keep performing like that it’s inevitable and only a matter of time."

Wright, who enjoyed a glittering England top-flight career, and took to social media to question his exclusion for the upcoming March internationals against Brazil and Belgium.
