Elland Road news: January decision already 'comes back to haunt Leeds' after Bielsa update

Journalist Pete O’Rourke thinks Leeds United‘s decision not to sign a striker last month has come back to haunt them.

The Yorkshire club continue to look light up front without Patrick Bamford, who has been plagued by injury this season.

Bamford has been out for a while now with a foot injury and there is currently no return date set.

Speaking recently about his striker’s injury problems, Marcelo Bielsa told BBC Sport and other outlets: “He continues with the problems at the bottom of his foot and he hasn’t started jogging.

“His situation continues the same way and we can’t predict when he will return because it depends on the pain going away so he can start jogging again. Since the injury started the pain hasn’t gone away.”

In total, the 28-year-old has played just six times in the Premier League this season, really putting things into perspective.

O’Rourke, not convinced by Leeds’ other striker option Rodrigo, thinks the Whites should have signed a new centre-forward when the window was open.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the transfer insider said: “Rodrigo hasn’t really done it in a Leeds shirt after his big-money arrival from Valencia, and I’ve always thought they need cover for Patrick Bamford. That’s come back to haunt them this season with his injury problems.”

Not too well, to be honest. Last season, Bamford scored 17 times in the Premier League to help Leeds to a top-half finish.

Without that firepower this term, the Whites have dropped into the bottom half of the table and currently find themselves near the relegation zone. Furthermore, they really could have done with the arrival of a new centre-forward last month.
