Leeds: £72m duo now set to follow Bielsa out Elland Road exit door

Leeds United have very little chance of holding on to Kalvin Phillips or Raphinha beyond this summer, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Premier League outfit bid farewell to manager Marcelo Bielsa on Sunday, and further exits could be on the way.

Having lost their last four league matches, conceding 17 goals in the process, the club’s hierarchy decided that it was time for a change in the dugout, and Bielsa left Elland Road over the weekend.

Leeds have moved quickly to secure his replacement as they have brought in former Red Bull Salzburg and RB Leipzig manager Jesse Marsch on a deal that runs until 2025.

However, they may have to start worrying about hanging on to their best players in the near future. Both Phillips and Raphinha have been linked with moves away in recent times.

Bielsa established himself as a hugely popular figure at Elland Road as he led the side back into the Premier League after 16 years away from the top-flight.

It may take some supporters a while to get over his departure, and they could be set to lose two key players as well, with Jones expecting Phillips and Raphinha to be snapped up by rival clubs in the next transfer window.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Sadly for Leeds fans, the Bielsa exit is not the only one they will be sorrowing this year. From what I’m hearing, the chances of Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha staying beyond this season are slim-to-none.”

Absolutely.

It could be argued that Phillips and Raphinha, who have a combined valuation of £72m according to Transfermarkt, are Leeds’ two best players, so to lose them at the same time would be disastrous for the team.
