Celtic transfer news: Hoops tipped to 'take option' to sign Jota permanently

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has hinted that Celtic plan to sign their Portuguese forward Jota to a permanent deal at the end of the season.

The 22-year-old has impressed in his maiden campaign in Glasgow, and appears to be closing in on securing himself a long-term contract with the Hoops.

The youngster arrived at Parkhead from Benfica as somewhat of an unknown quantity, but it did not take long for him to become a fans’ favourite.

He scored his first league goal in his fourth top-flight match against Aberdeen, and went on to find the net on four further occasions in the Scottish Premiership in 2021.

Jota was also on target twice in the Europa League group stages for Ange Postecoglou’s men as he established himself as one of Celtic’s most promising attackers in the first part of the season.

Earlier this month, Postecoglou revealed that Jota is set to hold talks with the club’s chief executive Michael Nicholson about his future.

O’Rourke has confirmed that Celtic have the option to sign Jota permanently at the end of the season, and has suggested that they will use some of their summer budget on getting this deal wrapped up.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT about the promising talent, O’Rourke said: “They’ve got Jota until the end of the season with an option to buy, and they can take that option up at the end of the season, which will then come from their summer budget.”

Postecoglou has several eye-catching attacking options at his disposal, including Kyogo Furuhashi, Daizen Maeda and Liel Abada.
