Henry Winter reacts to 'huge' Leeds morning news coming out of Elland Road – report

Henry Winter has been giving his thoughts on Twitter regarding Leeds United’s decision to part ways with Marcelo Bielsa.

The Whites officially parted ways with the 66-year-old on Sunday morning following the 4-0 defeat to Tottenham on Saturday lunchtime.

Bielsa’s position was first thought to be under threat before the latest Elland Road loss, with former RB Leipzig boss Jesse Marsch looking like the man to come in with 12 league games to go. Phil Hay admitted that the American is Bielsa’s probable successor, with an announcement due today.

Winter took to Twitter on Sunday morning following the news regarding Bielsa. The journalist revealed that he was at Thorp Arch last week and saw first-hand how adored the Argentine was amongst staff, labelling the cost of possible relegation as ‘huge’.

Hay outlined: “Staff at TA and ER said to be ‘heart-broken’ that Bielsa’s gone. I was at TA last week when he walked in and staff’s love for him immense. Difficult decision for Radrizzani/club. Cost of relegation huge. Many Leeds fans saying they’d rather go down with Bielsa, playing his way.”

Struggling in January and February was a regular occurrence under Bielsa, but Leeds always bounced back strongly after a poor start to the calendar year. 2022 was no different, with the Whites winning just two of their eight Premier League fixtures in recent months.

Bielsa proved that he can recover from poor spells of form, and without three key players in Patrick Bamford, Liam Cooper and Kalvin Phillips due to long-term injuries, it seems to be a risky call bringing in a new manager with no Premier League experience.
