Elden Ring: New speedrunning record comes in at under nine minutes

Elden Ring was beaten in just over 12 minutes earlier this week and we reported as much but that article is already out of date, with a player now recording a speedrun time of under nine minutes.

This is a game that can last as long as 100 hours, provided you explore absolutely every corner of the Lands Between.

From Software have built a sensational world that players can get lost within but speedrunners just don’t care about any of that.

They want to see the credits roll as quickly as humanly possible and now, it seems as though the times are going to keep falling down.

YouTuber Distortion2 uploaded a video on April 11th, revealing that he has completed an any percentage speedrun of the game in under nine minutes, claiming that it is a world record.

As per the article we wrote earlier this week, this run also utilises the zip glitch, which allows players to essentially teleport from one area to another, provided they can time the zip correctly. Players have to block and move forward at the exact same time in order to zip, although it carries danger with it, as you could potentially zip over water and then die after falling into the salty depths.

Per Kotaku, Distortion2 also used a metronome in order to ensure that they were timing the zips perfectly.

The amazing thing about the zips is that they can also skip bosses.

By zipping out of bounds, players overwrite the geometry of boss areas, and they subsequently fall to their deaths. That means that players can beat Elden Ring without facing a single boss, and thus don’t need to level up or hone their combat skills.

What happens at the end is that the players simply need to trigger the final cutscene and watch the credits roll.
