Elden Ring: Player discovers wall that will poison the player

Elden Ring’s Lands Between has plenty of things that are, essentially, designed to kill the player and a new one has just been found!

There are monsters roaming the world, while there are also human enemies, bosses, dragons, and poisonous swamps.

The latter can be particularly annoying, as poison has a cumulative effect in Elden Ring. Once you’ve breathed it in, your health is going to take a number of knocks over the next few minutes.

Depending on how many flasks you have available, poison can very easily kill you and Kotaku now reports that there is a wall in the game that will have a noxious effect on your health.

As per the website, Zullie the Witch, a famed data miner, has found a section the rocky wall in Volcano Manor’s Temple of Eiglay that can inflict a poisonous status effect on the player.

Now, if you do find the wall, it can be somewhat confusing. When you walk towards the wall, your character is essentially stepping into the same kind of poison found in the swamps elsewhere in the game.

Add to that the fact that the status effect literally sticks to you, and it means that players will continue to have their health diminished even if they step away from the area.

Zullie has explained that the reason for this is essentially a typo in the development code.

It’s to do with something called ‘Hit Material’. Hit Material denotes how certain environments should interact with the player, in terms of both footsteps and whether there should be damage inflicted.

This part of the wall was said to be denoted as ‘Hit Material 25’. That relates to the poison, and it genuinely seems like a mistake.

It’s yet more evidence that making games is hard.
