Elden Ring: How to respec your character

Elden Ring offers a great deal of character customisation but what if you want to respec your character midway through the game?

It’s a good question, especially if you begin your build with melee combat in mind but then want to switch to magic or vice versa.

There’s also the potential that you’ll pick up a really cool weapon, but you’ll have too many points in intelligence and not enough in strength, or you might find a spell but not have the attributes required to use it.

It is possible to respec your character and reassign your attribute points but it isn’t an easy thing to do.

The process is fittingly called Rebirth, and you’ll need to find some Larval Tears in order to reassign your points. You can’t ever take the statistics lower than the level they began at.

You will have to wait a fair while to unlock the option to respec so be aware of that, but we’ve put together a complete guide on how to do it, and where to find the Larval Tears you’ll need.

So first of all, you’ll need to unlock the Rebirth ability.

You’ll unlock it once you beat Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon, in one of the more awe-inspiring boss fights in the game.

She won’t disappear upon defeat and is instead teleported to the Raya Lucaria Grand Library.

That location has a Site of Grace, so you’ll be able to fast travel there whenever you feel the need.

Beating her will give you a Great Rune, called the Great Rune of the Unborn, and it’s this that you need to be able to undergo Rebirth.

To do so, you’ll have to talk to Rennala; she’ll be sat down and she won’t try to fight you if you do approach!
