Efe Ambrose performs trademark backflip at guard of honour after former SPFL star calls it quits at Bury

Efe Ambrose treated Bury fans to his trademark backflip celebration after playing his last game for the club.

The 35-year-old only joined Bury - who now play in the English ninth tier after merging to form a new club following their expulsion from the Football League five years - back in June but has now decided to move on. The former Nigeria international marked his final appearance for Bury by helping them to a 3-1 away win against Maghull in the FA Vase.

After the game, the ex SPFL star - who turned out for seven clubs in Scotland including Celtic, Hibernian and Livingston - was given a guard of honour by his teammates, and celebrated the occasion by performing a back-flip before he walked down the tunnel. The colourful defender is known for his acrobatics, and had performed them after scoring in a 7-1 win victory against Abbey Hay earlier this month. Speaking to Bury's Youtube channel afterwards, Ambrose was coy on his reasons for opting to move on but thanked everyone at the club for their support in his short stint at Gig Lane.

He said: "For me there is not much to say but to thank the club, the fans and the players for giving me this chance to put on the jersey. I am also grateful to the chairman, the coach and the staff as it's not just about me. It's about the ambition of the club, which is why I wanted to come here.

"I wanted to help the club get back to where they want to be but unfortunately that hasn't worked out. That is life and that his football and I wish I had the power to change everything. It's a shame.

"The fans have been a joy because when I came to the place they started singing my name like they used to when I played in Scotland. I just want to use this opportunity to say thank you."
