Bob MacIntyre forced to withdraw from PGA event MID ROUND with Tour Championship looming

Scottish golf ace Bob MacIntyre had to bow out of the BMW Championship during the third round on Saturday.

Struggling with a lower back issue, MacIntyre was seen in discomfort and decided to withdraw before reaching the 10th hole. At the time he stepped back, the 28 year old was one over par, placing him just shy of the top 30. Despite this setback, having started the day tied for 12th in the FedEx Cup standings, MacIntyre is still expected to comfortably make it to the Tour Championships.

"Sadly, we have to announce that Robert MacIntyre has withdrawn from the BMW Championship with a niggling back injury incurred in the last five minutes before his tee time in Round 3," announced Bounce Sports Management, representing MacIntyre, via social media. "He will now receive treatment in the hope of making [the] Tour Championship."

MacIntyre's season has been impressive, with several top-10 finishes propelling him to a personal best World Golf Ranking of No. 15, a significant leap from his No, reports the Mirror. 56 ranking at the start of the year. The Scot clinched his first PGA victory at the RBC Canadian Open in June.

He continued his winning streak by claiming victory at the Scottish Open on home turf last month, becoming only the second Scot after the legendary Sandy Lyle to win twice in a single season. With over $5.4m (£4m) in earnings this season, MacIntyre's career PGA Tour earnings are nearing $7.9m (£6m).

Following his triumph at the Renaissance Club, he shared: "I had a tear in my eye before I hit the putt," and added, "I was getting emotional before I read the putt. I still I had a job to do."

"This was the one I wanted, and it was the one I got. I can't believe it's happened. You have got to celebrate the good
